The Chautauqua has been an American tradition of summer education and entertainment in both traveling and camp settings. The movement started in the late 19th century in Chautauqua New York and was meant to provide summer education and cultural enrichment opportunities to adults especially in rural areas. We have revived this rich and historic model with a Chautauqua camp focused on children incorporating the arts for both education and entertainment. We have organized a program, focused on different theatrical arts: visual, musical, Acting and Technical theatre. Campers will spend the majority of the camp day learning about an area of their interest but all campers will have access to all tracks and have the opportunity to learn new skills. Our hope is that campers feel empowered to share their talents and collaborate on a theatre performance, which they will publicly perform at the closing of camp.
The camp is open to children ages 8-12 or entering grades 3rd-7th.
The dates/ time are M-F June 1st-12th 9:30am- 2:30 pm at Battle Rock Charter School
(The bus will depart Park De Vida in Cortez at 9am, the program will take place from 9:30am-2:30pm at Battle Rock the bus will depart Battle Rock at 2:30 pm and return to town at 3pm).
The performances will be performed locally at the Sunflower Theatre Friday 2:30pm matinee and Friday evening at 6:30pm and Saturday the 13th at 2:30pm.
