They are typically administered annually.
The Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) tests students in reading, writing, math, science, and sometimes social studies. These help measure how well students are meeting state standards. The CMAS test is administered online. Paper-pencil format for CMAS assessments will only be available as an accommodation for students with a paper administration mode need documented in their IEP or 504 plan.
CoAlt is an alternate test for a small number of students with significant learning needs, based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
For English Language Learners, is an English language proficiency test for English Language Learners (ELLs) administered annually in many states. Under the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, states are required to assess the English language proficiency of all K-12 English learners. ACCESS is used to assess students' English language proficiency in the four domains: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. The test helps educators understand the English language development of ELLs and make decisions about appropriate academic support.
The specific assessments administered will align with current Colorado state statutes and CDE guidelines for each grade level.
In addition to state-mandated assessments, Battle Rock Charter School may administer school-selected assessments to further inform instruction and progress monitoring.
These may include:
Universal Screeners: Administered periodically to all students to identify those at risk for academic difficulties or demonstrating signs of giftedness ( i-Ready, NNAT, CoGat, PCA ).
Administered throughout the school year to gauge student mastery of specific learning objectives. For these benchmark assessments, Battle Rock uses:
i-Ready (Reading & Math)
This online test helps teachers assess what students know and identify areas where they need additional support. It is not used for grades, just to guide instruction.
Formative Assessments are ongoing, informal assessments integrated into daily instruction (e.g., quizzes, observations, discussions, exit tickets).
Summative Assessments are administered at the end of a unit or grading period to evaluate overall learning (e.g., unit tests, projects).
Parents will be informed about the types of school-selected assessments used and their general purpose.
Last year, as determined by our I-Ready testing. Students who missed less than 10% of school days grew an average of 30% more in reading and 5% more in math than those who missed more than 10% of school days. 10% of school is equivalent to missing 1 or 2 days per month.
